7 Days to a Healthier Body Image

How Healthy Is Your Body Image? Feb. 24 - Mar. 1, 2008 is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. From time to time and in different stages of our lives, many of us may have a low and unhealthy body image.

Take this short quiz to assess your current body image:

  1. Do you have a negative perception of your body's size or shape?
  2. Do you often think, "If I just had a _____ like ____..."?
  3. Do you often feel self-conscious, ashamed, or anxious about your body?
  4. Do you feel that your body size or shape is a sign of personal failure?
  5. Do you often feel that other women are more attractive because of their body size or shape?

If you answered "yes" to at least two of these questions, you likely have a low and negative body image. While you may have goals to change your body size or shape, true whole life success and your ultimate power will only come through once you're able to feel proud of and accept the uniqueness of your body exactly as it is right now.

When you can begin to feel confident and comfortable with who you are, exactly as you are - you free up your power to make desired changes in any area of your life, including shifting your focus from body image to adopting a healthier lifestyle.

You can begin to affirm a healthier body image through this simple but powerful challenge.

Take the 7-Day Body Image EMPOWERMENT CHALLENGE

For the next seven days, negative comments and thoughts about your body are off-limits!

Starting on Monday 2/25/08 and for each day through Sunday 3/2/08:

  • Use two small post-it notes and on each write down one thing that is FABULOUS about your body, especially concerning your size and shape.

Feel free to use more than two post-it notes a day, but you must write at least two DIFFERENT fabulous body affirmations each day.

  • Keep the post-it notes with you throughout your day and place them in a space where you'll see them frequently (purse, mug, PC monitor, work space, etc.).

  • Once you get home again, stick them in a visible place (e.g. your bathroom/bedroom or even on your body).

Make sure you have at least two FABULOUS BODY visual reminders each day. This activity is great to maintain beyond National Eating Disorders Awareness Week to affirm a healthy body image.
